Stroh 60 is a distinctive rum with origins tracing back to 1832. At that time, Austria lacked a consistent source of molasses or rum from its Caribbean colonies, leading to an approximation created by blending ethanol with various flavorings. While contemporary Stroh uses an actual rum base, the original's unique taste persists and holds cultural significance in many Austrian desserts. The Stroh 60, at 120 proof, is not commonly found outside of Europe. The brand is most recognized for its extremely potent 160 proof variant, often chosen when a standard 151 proof rum is insufficient.
