About this bottle

This craft gin from Washington D.C. is made with a distillate base of 63% rye, 26% corn, and 11% malted barley. The botanical profile prominently features essential juniper and the distinctive addition of local spicebush, a member of the laurel family with aromatic berries. Other botanicals include coriander, grains of paradise, angelica, fennel, licorice, orris root, lemon peel, and lemongrass. The distillery, which also produces vodka and whiskey, concentrates on grain and distillation. Note: This product has been updated with new packaging and now includes "District Made" in its name, previously known as Ivy City Gin.

Kelvin Barron 2.0

Feels very medicinal and bracing. The juniper is really noticeable and hides the other botanicals. The rye foundation gives it a little pepper, making it a rather rough drink that isn't smooth enough for more delicate cocktails. The producer has an interesting and enthusiastic method, so I'm hopeful that subsequent gin recipes will suit me better (some people I was with enjoyed this gin more than I did, but I suspect I am the most dedicated gin drinker in the group).

Excellent in a G&T. The distinctive grain mash creates a smoother texture with a touch of spice and pepper from the botanicals and rye.
