About this bottle

The mash bill for Spirit of Hven Tycho's Star Single Malt consists of three barley malt varieties: pale ale, chocolate, and heavily-peated. It underwent an extended 96-hour fermentation using three distinct yeast strains and was double-distilled in copper pot-stills. The whisky matured in three types of barrels: heavily-charred Quercus Muehlenbergii from Missouri, heavily-toasted Quercus Petraea from Allier, and medium-toasted Quercus Robur from Bourgogne. Bottled at 41.8% ABV, it is not chill-filtered. The whisky is named in honor of the island's renowned astronomer, Tycho Brahe (1546-1601).

I was eager to sample the Swedish spirit. The aroma and taste were very vibrant with lemon and butterscotch. It's somewhat similar to a young Irish whiskey. Wood and smoke are very subtle. The finish had a metallic quality and I wasn't overly impressed with the complete flavor profile.

Cherish Chu 3.0

A drinkable pour, but unremarkable. Notes of dried fruit and sweet honey on the aroma, with a touch of peat. The taste presents light smoke once more, fruit, and an oily texture, finishing sweet and honey-like.

Sondra Pickett 3.5

Initially peaty on the nose, then brown sugar and cloves. The mouthfeel is thick and oily with a slight burn – rich, sweet, and leathery, fading into cardamom and licorice. I approve.

Iva Bronson 3.0

Mellow, sweet, and perhaps a touch spicy (or maybe I'm not accustomed to potent spirits). A scent of oranges lingers afterward.

Reagan Shepard 2.0

The smell was of alcohol. The taste was mellow and lacked spice. The bottle and wooden case are very attractive.

This is truly the bottom of the barrel for me. I'm dumping it out. Even trying to find notes would be an insult to my palate.
