This American single malt whiskey is made from barley grown in Colorado. The Colorado Malting Company in Alamosa handles the growing, malting, and peat-smoking of the barley. Each batch of Spirit Hound's whiskey is offered as a single barrel release. While individual barrels possess unique characteristics, consistent underlying qualities are present in each selection. The whiskey is aged for a minimum of two years in new American white oak barrels of full size, and each barrel undergoes a sensory evaluation before its release.

I sampled this at a local pub this week while on a business trip to Denver. At $8 a pour, it was quite pricey... I'm not sure I would purchase it again or buy a whole bottle. It didn't really present as "peated"; it felt more like a light speysider instead. There were faint hints of shortbread on the nose. The palate is sweet, like corn candy with a touch of oak. It was interesting to try a local-only whiskey.
A very intriguing whiskey. Strong vanilla notes with undertones of peat smoke and honey. I'm optimistic about this distillery's future, as I believe they are creating something special, though there's still a touch of bitterness and heat on the finish, particularly noticeable in their cask strength offerings.
Reminiscent of young scotch, with a light caramel hue, the malt is noticeable, and it's an easy drinker if you enjoy that kind of profile.
The fruitiness and subtle smoke move across the palate from beginning to end. A very good, subtly balanced whiskey.
