FLAVOR: Artificial Vanilla Artificially Sweet Dried Spices Fig or Dried Plum Lavender NOSE: Easy Light Artificial Sweetener COLOR: Golden EXPERIENCE: A very approachable entry, immediately revealing artificial vanilla and sweeteners. It's easy to drink with a quick finish, disappearing from the palate fast. Deeper exploration uncovers notes of dried spices and dried fig or plum. I strongly endorse this rye, not for sipping neat, but it's excellent in cocktails to boost sweetness without adding complexity. At 35% ABV, it's a great starter bottle for newcomers to spirits or for those simply seeking intoxication due to its simple profile.

About this bottle
Spicebox Canadian Spiced Whisky draws inspiration from a historical practice by a Canadian distiller, who in the Prohibition era, sent barrels of whisky labeled as "spices" to the U.S. The base whisky is a combination of spirits aged between three and six years in bourbon barrels. Vanilla and spice flavors are introduced to the whisky via cold infusion. The master blender acknowledges using three types of vanilla beans, but the specific beans and other spices remain a secret.

Sweet and spicy, yet remarkably smooth. The flavor profile isn't intricate, but I suspect that wasn't the intention. For me, the taste vanishes quite rapidly and doesn't linger. It offers great value at approximately $30 after tax in BC for a 750mL bottle. It's worth noting that the Canadian domestic version is bottled at 35% ABV, meaning it technically no longer qualifies as Canadian whisky under the 40% ABV rule. Nevertheless, I found it enjoyable. I would certainly recommend it.
Hard to find better for the cost. It's smooth on its own and pairs wonderfully with cola and ginger ale.
Pleasant, but excessively sweet and vanilla-forward for direct consumption. Excellent for mixed drinks or baking.
It has a flavor reminiscent of cream soda with vanilla. This is my go-to whisky.
A wonderful dessert spirit. I imagine it would be excellent with pecan pie.
