Smugglers' Notch Litigation Wheat Whiskey

The color is rich golden and clings to the glass with an aroma that is subtle, with dark chocolate and baking spices along with hints of ripe fruit, brine, charred oak and green apple. The palate is somewhat rich and fills the mouth with dark chocolate and charred oak, with subtle baking spices balancing it out while the fruity notes linger underneath. The finish is medium with dark chocolate and charred oak that slowly fades, while a hint of fruit gives you a reminder it is still there. The aftersniff has the smokiness of a blown out birthday candle, and the sweetness of a grandmother's lingering vaporub after she embraces you in an uncomfortably long hug.

The aroma is full of spice, leading to flavors of toasted, burnt oak, dried fruit, leather, and coffee beans. The finish has good persistence and concludes with hints of praline, raisin, and dried cherry. The wheat mash provides a pleasant mouthfeel that isn't heavy or thick. It's a nice drink, but it doesn't stand out in any specific way.

I'd call this whiskey 'inoffensive.' It didn't stand out enough for me to recommend, but it wasn't bad either. I found it rather bland, so I added some candied orange peel, which made the rest of the drink more enjoyable.

Similar to a slightly fruitier Jameson. It’s a good whiskey especially for slow sipping.
