SirDavis American Whisky

A sophisticated Rye Whiskey created by a famous musician, with assistance from a renowned Scotch whisky distiller. Made in Indiana with a blend of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, it was then aged in Texas within sherry casks, bottled at 44% ABV. It begins with a fragrant mix of grains, wood, fruits, herbs, and spices. The rich and complex middle offers notes of malt, biscuit, orange, cherries, raisins, honey, and Demerara sugar, leading to a slightly tart and herbal conclusion of moderate duration, featuring oak, rye, cinnamon, clove, ginger, and dill.

Nose: Excellent mild rye spice, peppermint, cherry, and cola – well-rounded. Palate: A sweet beginning with mild warmth, rich cherry, followed by a slightly tart apple finish that persists pleasantly. This is a tasty rye. The flavors are direct and it might be slightly underproofed, but it's very enjoyable.

There isn't much to say about this one. It's a bitter, herbal rye with a lot of fennel coming through, milder cereal notes from the malt, and a hint of nuttiness. The finish is soft and short. Forgettable and definitely a disappointment for the price.

Clear golden amber body with medium legs. Aroma of sweet fruit, earth, and nuts. Flavors of toffee, caramel, fruit, and woody oak. Medium to full body with a light warming sensation. Scored 8/4/8/4/17 = 4.1

Herbal nose that sits in the glass, with cinnamon, sweetness, red currant, and is extremely light. The nose is stronger than the finish; I get a little of the minty rye, and it's definitely sweet for a rye.

I was hesitant about a celebrity-endorsed spirit, but this one proved me wrong. It’s considerably sweeter and more fruit-forward than I anticipated for a rye.
