Collingwood Rye 21 Year

Managed to find two bottles at a local grocer in New Orleans. A rare find these days. They cost about $65 each. Well worth the price. This is unlike any whiskey you're likely to try. To say it has a lot of character is an understatement. 100% rye and 21 years of aging create this flavorful combination of a punch from the wood followed by spicy rye notes. Definitely a (good) unusual dram.

I was fortunate to find some of this rare bottle for $49.00. I've only tried it once and don't have much experience with rye. I can say it's less harsh than Bullet Rye. Initially, I detected sweetness and spice. After adding a small amount of water, it drinks smoothly. The smoothness might be due to the lower alcohol content. I'm eager to try it in an Old Fashioned.

A rare find from a local auction. Initially, it reminds me of the Lot 40 Cask Strength 11 Year Old that I adore, with tropical fruit like guava on the nose! Upon sipping, yes, guava! followed by a gummy texture. It's truly special! The finish isn't overly long, but it's good. Overall, it's among my favorites.

I wasn't aware this was a rare whiskey, but I knew it was a great one when I tasted it. Unfortunately, I didn't take any notes when I tasted it, but it reminded me of soothing porridge made with rice grains mixed with sesame seed oil that my grandmother used to prepare for me when I was unwell.

The astringent, watery beginning is fondly remembered once the unpleasant sour finish makes you gag. You should feel insulted if someone offers this for you to "try" at their home.

Finally tried this on Christmas Eve; it suited the occasion well. Spicy with a lot of character.
