While in New Orleans for Tales of The Cocktail, I discovered this rum made in Louisiana! A bartender at Cure introduced me to it neat and in a classic Daiquiri. Amazing! For a spirit with 101 proof, you have a rum that you can drink straight and wouldn't realize it's overproof. I checked the distillery's website and found out this rum has received a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco Spirits competition for two consecutive years.

About this bottle
Rougaroux Sugarshine Rum is named after a figure from Louisiana Cajun folklore, said to lurk in cane fields and punish the wicked, with a curse lasting 101 days, which corresponds to the proof of this white rum. It is created from family-cultivated sugarcane and molasses, intended to yield a clear rum with the strength of moonshine. Donner-Peltier Distillers, located in Thibodaux, announced it would conclude operations after August 27, 2018.
