About this bottle

First appearing in the fall of 2017, this Diplomático Distillery Collection No. 2 Barbet Rum was one of two limited edition releases. The collection is named to honor the different still types employed by the brand. The Barbet column still, a continuous type, was acquired by the distillery from France in 1959. This rum was aged in American oak barrels that previously held bourbon and whisky. Each bottle is individually numbered, and the distillation date is provided.

- Light copper in color. - Thin, closely-spaced legs down sides of Glencairn. - Nose is not particularly vibrant, but has subtle oak and old-fruit nuances. - Semi-sweet and zesty. Big, moldy oak dominates. Light citrus and grassy notes on the backend. - Mouthfeel is thick, oily and sticky. Literally clings to my tongue and stays there. - 47% is noticeable, but doesn't interfere. - This is quite unique and enjoyable. 4.1.

Houston Wheeler 4.0

I'm not really sure why people rate this so low. It is an excellent rum, though a bit pricey. It's just not as sickeningly sweet as the Reserva Exclusiva. I found it to be an excellent sipping rum.

Ben Hamilton 3.5

The Barbet column still originates from France and was brought to Venezuela in 1959. It is a continuous column still. Dramfest '18. Pleasant and sweet. Score: 3.5.

Aurora Cote 4.0

It possesses a distinct goodness and complexity. However, I would still rather have a bottle of Reserva Exclusiva.

Sullivan Thayer 4.0

This one is set up from the first. It resembles the third bottle the most. It's the driest of the three.

Burton Maddox 3.0

It's quite dry. You can definitely sense the bourbon barrel aging.
