A full-bodied, aged Rum from Venezuela, created by Tito Cordero, who was recognized as Master Rum Blender of the Year in 2011. Anticipate intense, luscious sweetness and flavor due to its aging in bourbon barrels and a two-year finishing period in sweet Pedro Ximenez casks. It begins aromatically with hints of almond, hazelnut, cocoa, toffee apples, cooked banana, rich sherry, mince pies, cinnamon, and potpourri. Its rich development introduces notes of buttery biscuit, cinnamon, dried apricots, dates, Nutella, and primarily sweet pipe tobacco, leading to a long and complex conclusion with flavors of fruit, sweet, thick honey, and allspice. About this bottle
Diplomático Ambassador Rum, named to honor 18th-century distiller Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, deviates from the brand's standard by using 100% pot-still rum, unlike their typical column-and-pot blend. This rum undergoes 12 years of aging, is bottled at a higher proof, and receives an additional two years of maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks following initial ex-bourbon barrel aging. It is presented in a wooden display case.

If I could describe the taste of liquefied crème brûlée banana, I'd tell someone to try this rum. Even the alcohol component tastes like perfectly ripe banana destined for banana bread. It has a clean finish, though my tongue feels a bit numb, so a chilled glass would be advisable. I'd avoid ice or water, fearing it would diminish the rum's natural caramelized essence. Absolutely delicious!
I've honestly never experienced a better aroma. The addition of PX aging to the usual ex-bourbon barrels had a fantastic impact on this high-quality drink. It's complex, with citrus fruits, oranges, lemon zest, black pepper, and other spices derived from the pot stills. You perceive the exact same profile on the palate, concluding with a hint of tobacco smoke and more spices. Truly astonishing.
12 years in bourbon plus 2 in PX casks results in absolutely no sweetness. It's like a less impressive cousin to the Diplomatico range. Oak, nearly pure dark chocolate, abundant cigar notes, and dusty dried fruits. This rum is depressing, making you feel even more unwell and weary. Not suitable for a vacation.
The aroma is quite subtle. Sweet, with hints of melon and flowers. The flavor is also very subtle, featuring many sweet elements like molasses and toffee. The finish is robust, with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and spice. It's not exceptionally complex, but quite pleasing.
So delicious and smooth. The best rum I've had up to this point, which is expected given its price bracket. The aroma is wonderful, and it contains numerous flavors (as the expert review suggests) that harmonize perfectly.
