About this bottle

This rum is one of six limited-edition bottlings in Planteray Rum's "Under the Sea" Vintage Collection No. 2. Each rum in the collection features a local marine animal on its packaging. These rums are distilled and initially aged in their country of origin before undergoing a secondary aging period in southwest France, a signature practice for the brand. This specific Venezuela 2010 bottling was created using a column still at Destileria Sofa. It spent eight years aging in former bourbon barrels, then an additional four years in France. The whitespotted eagle ray is depicted on the label. Production was limited to 22 casks, and US availability commenced in May 2023 with a suggested retail price of $80.

Rodolfo Stephenson 4.8

The Cognac is noticeably present on the nose, adding refinement to a slightly smoky rum foundation. Notes of freshly roasted coffee drift from the glass. On the palate, this is a potent, concentrated, and rich rum, cloaked in wood. Deep, chewy flavors of toffee, toasted pie crust, and dark roasted coffee beans are also detected. The fairly long finish concludes with a lively peppery note. Like most Plantation releases, this one is another success. Get a few bottles while you can.
