Botran Rum is produced on a single estate using sugarcane varieties cultivated on Guatemala's southern Pacific coast. Instead of the typical molasses, the first press of sugarcane, known as virgin sugar cane honey, is utilized for distillation. Botran employs a method called "dynamic aging," a modification of the solera system. The No. 8 expression is a blend of rums aged between 5 and 8 years, matured in casks that previously held American whiskey and sherry. Significantly, Botran holds a Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) and is certified as Ron de Guatemala. The brand was reintroduced to the U.S. market in August 2022 with updated branding.

Initially sweet and fruity, perhaps with a touch of chocolate. The alcohol's potency emerges after swallowing. Considering its price, it's likely the best rum available locally.
Tertiary aging even feels like first fill, despite bourbon and charred oak. Fruit, Bounty bar.
This could be my new favorite. No harsh smell, very smooth, an easy sipper.
