Rather than delving into the intricate specifics, this is a very smooth, versatile, and drinkable rum with unobtrusive flavors. The label indicates two years of aging, which I fully trust; there are suggestions of barrel oak and related characteristics, but precisely that, suggestions. Frankly, judging solely the liquid within the bottle, I'd rate it a 2.5, signifying dead average. However, in my location, it's four dollars less expensive than Bacardi and at least as ubiquitous in liquor stores. The value it offers elevates it to a 3 for me, as an average rum priced below Bacardi is noteworthy.

This rum is barely drinkable even under ideal conditions. At its worst, it's bitter, bland, and nauseating. Even after sipping some peaty scotch, the unpleasant bitter taste persists. While it contains some off-flavors, there's also some depth and a hint of richness. The taste is quite dry. That said, Cruzan Aged Rum is always palatable in eggnog (in small amounts). It's about as generic as rum gets.
