About this bottle

J. Rieger & Co. is introducing a series of bottled-in-bond rye releases with this debut bottling. The mash bill is composed of 96% rye and 4% malted barley. Production, including barreling in the fall of 2015, occurred entirely at the J. Rieger & Co. facility in Kansas City's Electric Park district. The release coincides with KC's 816 Day on August 16, 2021, a celebration of the city's area code, with around 6,000 bottles available from that date.

The nose is light with a hint of grain. The color is a beautiful amber. The mouthfeel is silky. Orange flavor is immediate, followed by a slight biscuit taste that quickly transitions to heat. I searched for pepper but never found it. Orange licorice lingers briefly at the end. It's smooth from beginning to end. I would purchase this again.

Rieger's initial distillery release is quite impressive! The aroma is full of cinnamon apple spice 😋. The taste is a robust, classic rye with notes of spice, grass, and creamy apple cinnamon. The finish is medium, not as sharp as some ryes but also not as heavy and prolonged as some bourbons. The 6-year age statement is simply perfect 👌.

Alyce Berg 3.0

A solid rye whiskey with notes of clove, pine, and spices. A slight burn.

Selena Shirley 4.5

Spicy at the start, with an incredibly smooth finish.
