Redemption Barrel Proof 9 Year Bourbon (2017 Edition)

Bought in 2021, so I'm uncertain if this is a '2017 edition,' but the alcohol percentage is identical, which is confusing. The aroma isn't the most intense but is very pleasing; it strongly suggests MGP with scents of Christmas tree, allspice, ginseng, leather, cinnamon, grass, and pencil eraser. The alcohol content is very low for its stated proof. Palate: Yes, this is delicious. All the aromas detected on the nose are present in the taste, with a touch of vanilla and apple sweetness providing balance. Make no mistake, though; this isn't a sweet bourbon but rather a 'spicy and woody' selection. The flavors meld together quite smoothly, exhibiting typical MGP brightness. I dislike using this term, but it's possibly the 'smoothest' bourbon I've experienced with this specific profile, meaning it has no harshness or alcohol burn. The finish is quite long, featuring cedar, cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, and a subtle hint of mint. Very enjoyable. The mouthfeel is moderate, but any thicker might not complement the bright flavor profile, so I'm completely satisfied with it. This is challenging to evaluate. I genuinely liked it, but at $99.99, it's difficult to consider it a good value, especially since you can find the same MGP profile, albeit with slightly less aging, at the exact same proof in Belle Meade Reserve for $65. (Belle Meade is also a bit sweeter). This will be my first review with a repurchase rating that likely won't result in an actual repurchase; however, it is a very tasty spirit.

A pleasant surprise. Among my initial bourbon experiences. The nose has a strong alcohol presence with a touch of caramel and spice. The palate is somewhat thin and lacks complexity, but it offers enjoyable spice notes distinct from its alcohol strength. It's easy to drink.

Incredibly flavorful! It's very fruity, like a luxardo cherry, yet has no alcohol burn. It leaves a sugary coating sensation in the throat, prolonging the aftertaste. The aroma is very rich and ripe.

More sweet than spicy. Features some vanilla and fruit notes, with flavors that are not overly influenced by oak. Pleasant served over a large ice cube. Served neat, it's warm with a cinnamon finish.

Very good with notes of caramel, cherries, pepper, leather, and initial gasoline notes that fade, plus some chocolate, oak, and floral characteristics.

Spice from the rye and sweet corn are layered over a distinct oak aging, with a subtle smoky essence. They receive full marks for accuracy in their description.
