Canadian Club Sherry Cask

Appearance: Thick, somewhat watery streaks slid down the glass of this Canadian sherry bomb, possessing a dark hue reminiscent of toasted pretzels. Nose: The aroma presented notes of waxy roasted pecans, like those made for holidays, along with bruised apple, cinnamon, maple syrup, baking spices, earthiness, and a slight grain-like bite. Taste: The flavor profile leaned excessively sweet for my preference, featuring notes of vanilla, caramel, maple syrup, candied peanuts, and a hint of barrel spice trying to provide equilibrium. Finish: The finish began with a quick sting at the back of the throat, which then softened, followed by flavors of plum skin and vanilla dominating the moderate duration. Thoughts: For those keeping score, this "small batch" release, batch c12-232, might suit some, but it's not for me. It was undeniably a sherry bomb, quite thick and sugary. It also had an unusually strong burn, which I suspect stems from a poorly crafted spirit. I had anticipated this product from CC would be enjoyable, but I personally prefer their main offering and cannot endorse this one. My apologies, Canadian Club, I was unimpressed.

More rye character, less sweetness. It almost behaves like a bourbon. Hints of vanilla and almond alongside a spicy rye note. Smells of sherry and caramel.

Not particularly memorable. A solid offering within the CC range. It feels more like a product conceived by marketing than by the distillers.

Pleasant flavor, exceptionally smooth. A 750ml bottle ($20) vanished quickly due to its quality. Rated 5 stars for satisfaction, not for peak flavor. Recommended.

Slightly sweet. Pleasant kick but fades on ice. The flavors vanish fast, but they're good while present.

Light in body and sweet.
