About this bottle

Portobello Road No. 171 Gin is named after the location of Portobello Star, a cocktail bar in Notting Hill that also houses the Ginstitute, a gin museum and educational facility. Bartender Jake Burger and proprietor Ged Feltham developed the recipe over nine months. The gin is made from an English wheat neutral spirit base and nine botanicals, including juniper, orris root, coriander, licorice root, and nutmeg. It is produced to their specifications at the Thames Distillery in London and bottled at 42% ABV.

Micah Zuniga 3.0

Sharp citrus and juniper dominate initially, followed by a delicate floral brightness and a hint of oiliness. A slight initial astringency quickly subsides. It resembles Beefeater but is smoother, with a bit more complexity in the finish. Priced at $45 in Ontario.

Timmy Tobin 3.5

Visited the ginstitute to learn about gin's past and sample many varieties before creating our own custom blend. The 171 is a quality gin that was especially pleasant in the Tom Collins served to us at the beginning.

Suzanne Pritchard 3.3

During my exploration of London gins, this one hasn't impressed me as much. It's a bit harsh, but I'd happily visit the distillery after COVID.

Geoffrey Espinosa 3.3

I'm not sure why this receives such high praise. I'm typically a classic London dry enthusiast. This just doesn't appeal to me.

Chad Reinhardt 4.0

A solid, versatile gin. Juniper is prominent, suitable for a traditional G&T, and also complements a Negroni.

Everly Bello 4.8

Abundant juniper, reminiscent of Harahorn Swedish gin, with floral notes.
