Nose: Resinous and tarry. Fascinating and compelling earthy, vegetal hogo funk. A sweet honey presence lurks behind it. Hints of oak, tobacco, and leather. Palate: A bold but soft entry with licorice-tinged raisins in molasses. Baked root vegetables and plantains drizzled with leatherwood honey. Plenty of preserved fruit too, complex and aged, resembling persimmon chutney or blood orange and grapefruit marmalade. The only drawback is a sugary note that gradually builds until it becomes intrusive. Finish: Long. The palate's flavors merge and eventually fade, leaving a sweet licorice and tobacco aftertaste, but the sugar is once again too apparent. The nose is very intriguing and will appeal to rum enthusiasts. It possesses an alluring fragrant hogo of the highest caliber, the kind that makes you wonder "what IS that?" and compels you to return for another sniff. The palate is sweet, but while complex and earthy, it leans too heavily into the one-dimensional white sugar syrup flavor found in many Plantation rums. I enjoyed it and it's making me crave a cigar intensely, but I would have preferred it more without the added sugar. "Excellent": 87/100 (4.25 stars)

The aroma is fantastic. It makes me want to just keep it near my nose. Then the wonderful scent prompts me to take a drink. Among the best rums I've ever had for this cost.
