Zane Barber 3.3

Nose: Exhibits green capsicum, artichoke, agave syrup, white pepper, minerals, dusty red earth, and a hint of wood smoke. The aroma is complex yet understated. While complex, it truly requires a tulip glass to reveal its full potential; a paper cup proved insufficient. Palate: Presents with green melon, fresh oregano, fresh mint, lemon zest, boiled green vegetables, brine, and some smokiness. The mouthfeel is oily. Finish: Medium to short. Notes of stewed pears or apples, earthy undertones, and seed spice. This is the second of four brief assessments from an impromptu tasting at a local liquor store. A decent mezcal, though I was uncertain if it was elegant or merely too soft and passive. It's not an assertive spirit, and the tasting cups used did not do it any favors. I wasn't overwhelmingly impressed, which might be due to the presentation. Given the cost, I didn't feel compelled to purchase a bottle to investigate further, though I may be overlooking its merits. “Above Average”: 82/100 (3.25 stars)
