Patrón Añejo Tequila Sherry Cask Aged

What a fantastic expression of Patron tequila añejo! It's not quite what one might anticipate from a tequila, as it reminds me of The Macallan 12 Sherry Oak Cask. On the nose, I get a creamy sherry and sweet cooked agave aroma with a subtle nutty note. On the palate, I detect nuttiness and a creamy, fruity sherry (almost a sherry bomb) with cooked sweet agave and a luscious, creamy mouthfeel. I also pick up caramel and baking spice along with very minimal oak. The finish is medium to long with more cream sherry and nutty flavors. While the sherry might be a bit dominant, the agave is consistently present and perfectly layered throughout. It's one of the most sippable sipping tequilas I've encountered. It pairs wonderfully with an aged cigar. I found this online for $75.

This is the tequila that can convert whiskey drinkers, especially those who favor Macallan, Glendronach, or Glenfarclas. This sherry cask-aged tequila boasts significant sherry influence, with notes of raisins, Nutella, pecan pie, cloves, maple syrup, licorice, figs, dates, ginger, orange peels, Christmas cake, green chili peppers, almonds, cranberries, mulled wine, and some cooked agave. It might not appeal to traditional tequila enthusiasts as the sherry overshadows the agave, and while I enjoyed it and would suggest trying it at least once, I wouldn't rank it alongside Tears of Llorona, Gran Patrón Burdeos, or Arte Extra Añejo.

As noted by others, the Sherry notes are very pronounced, which is why I enjoy it. It's unlike any tequila I've sampled on the palate. It starts with typical agave notes but quickly transitions to that sherry cask influence. There's some heat at the end as it's swallowed, but not significant. I'm a big fan of this expression, and for the price, it's certainly suitable for sipping as an everyday pour. If you're seeking something novel, give it a try.

I thought this would be better. It's good, but nothing remarkable. It has spice and herbs. I was hoping for more sherry-driven fruit notes, but they're absent. While it's more intricate than standard tequila, superior options exist. Nevertheless, it's pleasant to drink.

The flavor is reminiscent of a scotch finished in sherry casks. It's a delicious take on tequila and will be a regular sipper.
