Overeem Port Cask Matured Single Malt

Aroma: Spirituous wine – closer to brandy or even rum than port. Fruit cake, sugary sweets (reminiscent of smelling a bag of fruit-flavored candy), Turkish delight, vanilla, and malty cereal. Adding water introduces an odd, papery aroma. Palate: A very smooth and sweet initial taste. The progression reveals flavors of plums, sultanas, and other sweet fruits, followed by cereal and malt syrup notes. It's comparable to eating a blackcurrant muesli bar coated in butterscotch and then consuming a handful of barley sugar candies. With water, even more fruits emerge, all types of berries, enveloped in thick blackberry jam. Finish: Long and subtly spicy, with sweet wine notes lingering, and a persistent taste of syrup. This isn't exactly a sherry-bomb; it's richer and broader than that. More of a syrup bomb. If you prefer your whisky thick and sweet, this would likely appeal to you, but it's not quite my preference. I favor dry whisky, and if I desire something this sweet and coating, I would opt for a liqueur muscat or a Venezuelan rum. It is exceptionally well-made, however, with no discernible flaws, and I can see it being generally well-received. It's challenging to remain objective when something doesn't align with one's personal taste. Sampled at a Sydney whisky shop tasting event in January 2018. 'Good': 83/100 (3.5 stars)

A fantastic, lingering finish featuring cocoa... this is a superior whiskey, truly.

Good whiskey. Seems a bit youthful. Doesn't require dilution. Hints of port.
