About this bottle

Glenfiddich is credited with essentially creating the commercial "single malt" category in 1963. The Original is designed to replicate the character and taste of that pioneering first malt.

I initially thought this was a gimmick, a ploy to capitalize on the Mad Men trend. However, appearances can be deceiving. This pale spirit is presented in a striking metal container. It presents an aroma of oatmeal with apples. The initial taste is fruity, with a subtle honey note complementing oatcake. It concludes gently, without leaving a lasting impression. I'm fond of this. It's a straightforward beverage to conclude a demanding day.

I had mixed feelings. Given the slogan, "This is your grandfather's whisky," I anticipated something far more substantial and rich, capable of building a cabin. While it's a very good whisky, I suspect this is actually Glenfiddich 12 disguised.

Giselle Andres 2.0

Very much like the 12 Year. No clear distinction between the two, though I did not compare them directly. Not currently available in Ontario. It was over the holidays, and I think it cost $100.

Fernanda Santamaria 4.0

Very smooth. I detect a nutty flavor with limited sweetness. The end of the drink has a pleasant saltiness, as if the rim were lined. Very little burn at the back, which was surprising. Good drink.

Jasmin Weiner 3.0

Citrus on the nose, with a mineral, medicinal scent. Similar to a Flintstones vitamin. Earthy and natural, with very light smoke. A strong acetone taste initially, but it dilutes well. Extremely dry, low oil mouthfeel.

Vonda Smalley 3.0

I'd enthusiastically recommend this at half the price. It wasn't as straightforward as some reviews suggested. Abundant notes of gingerbread, green apple, and toffee kept me happy with a second glass.
