Old Pulteney Stroma Malt Whisky Liqueur

Appearance: Clear, pale amber. No visible sediment. Aroma: Cod liver oil, naphthalene, sea spray, musty socks, eucalyptus oil, treacle, struck matches, honey. Flavor and Texture: Honey, syrup, a mix of slightly bitter and vegetal herbal tea, and very, very young whisky. The texture is thick and syrupy, finishing with a hint of herbal bitterness that balances the sugary sweetness. The aroma is highly unusual and unlike any other whisky liqueur I've encountered, with one exception. While it lacks a sweet blackberry component, the base spirit is very similar to the fresh-off-the-still new make spirit used in Kilchoman Bramble Liqueur. Old Pulteney states this contains "older and younger whisky." Hmm, I suspect it leans heavily toward the younger end of the spectrum. The issue with most whisky liqueurs is that the whisky itself is barely detectable due to the overwhelming honey and spice notes. This, in contrast, clearly emphasizes the whisky (or perhaps "spirit"). It's interesting, and might be quite pleasant for those who don't typically enjoy sweet liqueurs. However, for me, it's too peculiar to be truly enjoyable, making it more of a novelty than a desirable and satisfying liqueur. I would not recommend it. "Adequate": 74/100 (2.25 stars)

Honey, caramel and Iodine/Salt define the flavor. Does the nose have some seaweed?

A little too syrupy, and Drambuie is a better choice.
