Produced at New England Distilling in Portland, Maine, Gunpowder Rye is designed as a revival of robust, traditional rye whiskey. Its youthful and unpolished character is intentional. This rye whiskey distinguishes itself by excluding corn from its mash bill, which consists solely of rye (70%) and barley (30%).

Rye whiskey in the style of Maryland, named after the river. Nose: Jasmine, rubber, petroleum, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon. Palate: Wildflower, rye, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, chocolate. It's rough and slightly sweet, ranking among the better whiskeys from Maine, but not something I'd seek out.
Very interesting. Sweet, and I didn't find it too harsh. A distinct, almost chapstick-like flavor. It wasn't unpleasant. I'm not sure if I'll purchase it again, but it was certainly interesting!
Vegetal notes were the first impression, followed by a cinnamon flavor. It feels a bit unrefined, but acceptable. I plan to use it in a Manhattan. Drinking it straight was alright, but not my preference.
Nose: Maple, lemon; Taste: Strong cinnamon, lemon-lime, a hint of maple syrup; Finish: Oak tannins, rye.
A potent spicy aroma. Very spicy, woody, and floral. It's easy to drink.
