About this bottle

Mount Gay Single Estate Series 23_01 is the inaugural release in the Single Estate Series, an annual collection from Mount Gay that honors Barbados and its heritage. This edition is a blend of sugarcane harvested in 2016 and 2017 from the brand's estate in Barbados. It is entirely pot-distilled and aged in ex-bourbon barrels. With a production run of only 1,200 bottles, it is bottled at 55% ABV and was available in the United States starting in November 2023, with a suggested price of $400.

The aroma is crisp, spicy, and bright, with notes of oak stave and molasses distillate. It's elevated, refined, and inviting. On the palate, the initial impression is tightly integrated with an intense sweetness, sharp wood, light caramel, barley sugar, mild baking spice, dried apricot, melba toast, and mild black tea. It has a light mouthfeel, covering the entire palate. The finish is fairly long, with tannic notes appearing at the very end. Overall, this is a world-class rum that is quite unique.
