After tasting Mi Familia Flores' Anejo, I decided it was worth the extra expense to try their Extra Anejo. Yes, this line might be excessively, almost sickeningly sweet, but everything has its time and place. I could see these tequilas being excellent after-dinner drinks. The aging process for their Extra Anejo significantly mellows the agave aroma. You still get some, but overwhelmingly, the aroma is of sweet desserts. Citrus, cinnamon, caramel, and brown sugar all mingle in the aroma, hinting at the flavor to come. The flavor begins very gently and is almost unnoticeable. Caramel, butterscotch, and brown sugar all emerge strongly. Again, some might find this overly sweet, but as I mentioned – all tastes have their time and place. Vanilla joins in mid-palate, and then cinnamon and black pepper create a familiar tingle on the tongue. Significantly less so than their standard Anejo. The finish is sweet with a hint of tartness. Predominantly, butterscotch and toffee are present in the finish, with a tiny bit of the citrus from the aroma. The finish is long and oily, strongly reminiscent of a good scotch. A fine sipping tequila, for sure. Perhaps a little TOO sweet – this one is even sweeter than their Anejo. Maybe their Reposado would be the perfect balance.

An mild Agave Spirit from Nom1459 in Amatitan, Jalisco, Mexico, crafted with Tequilana Weber & water from a local deep well; cooked in an autoclave, fermented in stainless steel tanks; twice distilled in stainless-steel pots; aged in American oak for 36 months before bottling at 80 proof. It begins with an aromatic bouquet of cooked agave, wood, earth, fruits, herbs & spices; followed by a slightly creamy mid-palate featuring banana, butterscotch & toasted bread notes; leading to a balanced, medium-length finish with hints of oak, black pepper, caramel, chocolate & cinnamon.

Butterscotch, cinnamon, toffee, and light citrus are dominant, with a fairly viscous finish 🥃 a great dessert drink.

Quite nice and smooth, with a slight bite, but not significant.

Reasonably smooth, not too aggressive. Pleasant taste.

Caryn Crowley 2.0

Has a cardboard taste. Not for me.
