Mezcal Pierde Almas Botanica +9

Bottle 568 of 1671 Lote: 17-BOT 45% ABV Nose: Extremely vibrant botanical scent. Immediately, I detect juniper and star anise. It's a pervasive aroma. I poured 1oz and placed it on my nightstand, and the scent reached me from across my queen-sized bed. My second inhalation brings notes of coriander, fennel seed, and nutmeg. The mezcal is present beneath the botanicals, forming the base. I perceive a vegetal aroma, like green pepper or mint. It's clearly very herbaceous. The scent is sweet. Taste: I can certainly understand why this would be a sipping gin. I've never sipped gin before, only using it in cocktails. I find this quite enjoyable. The 45% alcohol content pleasantly washes over the tongue as you savor the botanicals with the espadín base. I find it to be predominantly juniper-forward but with some spice and citrus notes underneath to provide balance. My usual gin cocktails are an Aviation and a Gimlet; I believe this would be excellent in them. I've never had a Negroni, but I'd be interested in trying one traditionally and one with this 'pierde almas +9 botanicals' to compare and contrast. It's very delightful as a sipping gin, though. I can envision it being served as an aperitif or digestif, depending on the meal. I purchased this due to my fascination with a gin and mezcal combination, and for the $80 USD I paid, I consider it worthwhile.

The aroma has grapefruit and white pepper, along with pine and chamomile. The palate is very pine and floral, with a menthol-like sensation in the sinuses. Citrus and white pepper persist on the palate, which has a smooth yet spicy texture.

Drinking this is incredibly intriguing, reminiscent of a smoky, savory gin.
