Mezcal Los Siete Misterios Doba-Yej

Aroma presents faint smoke and leather. The mouthfeel is oily; the palate is smooth, sweet, with vanilla and a subtle earthy note. The finish provides pepper alongside returning smoke. In general, it's sweeter and less smoky than typical mezcal offerings. A good introduction to mezcal. The vessel's artwork has been altered (at least two times) in the last decade, and I'm curious if this correlates with changes in its character. I'm simply not detecting many of the traits mentioned in earlier assessments.

The aroma features minerals, lime, earth, vanilla, greenery, stone fruit, smoke, wood, and agave. It's exceptionally smooth and rich, with tastes of char, lime, confectioner’s sugar, smoke, earth, and black pepper. The finish is quite dry, with some spice and an ashy flavor. Overall, it's rich, warm, full-flavored, and likely quite approachable for a mezcal novice.

A great choice for introducing someone to mezcal. It has sweet notes of vanilla bean, succulents, and dried grass. My bottle, from Maestro Santiago in Matatlán, offers a gentle smokiness. For the price in Canadian dollars, it's a good buy for an entry-level spirit with a refined character due to the copper pot distillation, though it lacks distinctiveness for that same reason.

Los Siete Misterios Doba-Yej 2013 An intense agave spirit from Los Siete Misterios NOM-O153X, made with Angustifolia Haw agave and double distilled. It begins aromatically with agave and vegetable notes; its bold life leads to a long finish with smoky notes.

My go-to budget-friendly mezcal. The aroma is entirely of burnt rubber, and some of that carries over to the palate. However, the taste is more complex, featuring a delightful smoky and tobacco ash edge in the finish that truly satisfies.

The aroma offers notes of vanilla, caramel, banana, and cinnamon. The taste is grassy and a touch bitter, concluding with a hint of cigar tobacco. It's a pleasant drink that isn't overpowering, and I'm thinking of mixing it.
