Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon

The famous motto of Eagle Rare feels like a joke nowadays, though that's not their problem. A perfect bourbon aroma greets you, with notes of ripe oranges, honey, and gingerbread, complemented by caramel, toasted oak, and sage. It's wonderfully balanced. The taste leans into vanilla cream, treacle, and strong wood spices, then becomes zesty, herbal, and a bit dry. Cinnamon, rock candy, and a hint of bubble gum fade in the moderately long finish. I sampled this at a gathering. A companion kindly opened it, and it was a very sweet experience. The aroma is rich with vanilla, caramel, hints of apple I detected, and perhaps cherry. I lacked a proper glass for appreciating the nose. On the palate, it's very rich and creamy with vanilla, caramel, and a slight spice note like sweet anise, but it was so sweet I couldn't identify other flavors. Overall, for a bourbon with low rye content, it delivers sweetness without being overly harsh. However, it lacks a broader range of flavors. Cheers!

I purchased a half bottle locally for $30 in 2024 and am enjoying it considerably! Nose: Cherries, caramel, and light brown sugar. Faint notes of red delicious apples and a subtle dusting of nutmeg. Palate: Mellow, pleasant sweetness. Classic bourbon characteristics of vanilla, gentle cinnamon, and some apple notes. The finish is pleasantly warming with baking spices. It makes you want another sip. Slightly higher rating than before. It's good, but not exceptional.

Nose: Predominantly oak, with spicy, citrusy, and caramel notes, and a slight sharpness. Palate: Sweet and spicy, featuring honey, apples, oranges, cinnamon, and vanilla. It's quite oaky and reminds me somewhat of apple pie. Finish: Reasonably long but not overpowering. Baking spices, vanilla, and woodiness linger for a considerable time. Overall: A quite beginner-friendly bourbon with good depth and very enjoyable. It offers excellent value.

Smells stronger than it is, with cinnamon and a touch of sweetness. The initial flavor is malty vanilla, with a slightly oily texture on the tongue. It has a sweetness followed by warmth at the end. A hint of honeysuckle. It's a good character, tastes nicely complex. Delicious!

Nose: apples and chocolate, spice, warmth - could be stronger, fuller - just needs a little more. Palate: warm, caramel and chocolate, apples, cinnamon - similar to the nose, a little flat - no real burn - finishes quickly. A solid bourbon - always a decent choice at retail price.
