【French Cognac】Martell VSOP Aged In Red Barrels French Cognac is considered a choice for cognac or brandy aficionados/veterans. This VSOP offers a smooth, layered French cognac experience with a fresh aroma, rich texture, and distinct oak notes. Martell Red Barrel VSOP Cognac Brandy can be enjoyed with ice. Martell Cognac House is the oldest in the Cognac region of France, but the intense global competition often causes the Martell cognac brand to be overlooked by consumers. The new Chief Winemaker at Martell, Christophe Valtaud, personally oversaw the creation of the new VSOP - Martell VSOP Aged In Red Barrels French Cognac. The distilled high-proof grape spirit is matured in specially selected oak barrels, artfully enhancing the fruity aromas of Martell VSOP Cognac and refined using Martell's unique distillation methods. 'Red Barrels' refers to the reddish hue of aged wood. The barrels used for maturing the eaux-de-vie for Martell VSOP Cognac have been previously used for at least 2 to 8 years, reaching a perfect stage of maturity. Martell VSOP Aged In Red Barrels French Cognac perfectly embodies the unique character of Martell Cognac after aging. The bottle design for Martell Red Barrel VSOP has been updated to a sleek cylindrical shape, exuding elegance and taste. The bottle features an etched glass swallow emblem, a mark of craftsmanship, with striking labels adorned with wood-grain textures and oak barrel motifs, adding a modern touch. The signature of the late Martell owner, Jean Martell, is included, honoring tradition. About this bottle
Martell VSOP Aged in Red Barrels is produced using used cognac barrels, known as "futs roux," which exhibit a reddish hue after 4-8 years of use. These barrels are made from lightly toasted Troncais oak. Introduced in Asian markets in 2018, this bottling is set to supersede the Medallion VSOP variant globally.

I occasionally enjoy cognac. While I explore other options, I always return to Remy or Courvoisier. This is one of those explorations, and I must say, I like it. Is it a new favorite? No, but it's worthy of an honorable mention. After a bit of air, the aroma is present, with fruity, oaky notes. It's the same price as Remy, so I'll stick with Remy!!
Nose: Red fruits, such as plums and apricots, mingled with vanilla. Palate: Pleasant and fruit-forward, showcasing oak and a whisper of spice. Finish: Moderate length, with persistent fruit notes and a trace of wood.
Well-rounded and rich, not too aged and not too young. Oak and fruit are in harmony. It's smooth and elegant, yet full-bodied and robust. A fine sipping cognac!
Tastes like cherry medicine. Improved by using in hot toddy.
