Hennessy Pure White Cognac

Considering its $100 price tag and scarcity in the US, I expected this cognac to pack more of a punch. It presents a nice, delicate fruitiness in both flavor and scent, but the strong alcohol presence gives it an unexpectedly common feel. While I, as a brandy enthusiast, genuinely enjoy and appreciate each taste, I'm hesitant to repurchase it. It's a worthwhile experience, though its rarity is its only truly distinguishing characteristic.

Wow, I'm genuinely surprised by these high scores. A friend and I shared this on New Year's Eve, and (although he's not a heavy drinker, unlike me) we both found it excessively harsh for its price and tasting of... licorice? I enjoy cognac and brandy, but why does this taste like licorice? I'd opt for anisette if I wanted that flavor. The buzz is unwarranted, and the price is not justified. Don't bother.

This Cognac, France Brandy is made using Ugni Blanc grapes from Fins Bois and twice distilled in copper pots, offered at 40% ABV. It opens with aromas of fruit, wood, and flowers. The palate brings forth flavors of apple and pear, finishing with a hint of oak.

Nice, but not exceptional compared to many other VSOP cognacs. Perhaps fresher in taste, with less prune influence. Maybe its scarcity leads to higher ratings.

A distinct grape flavor is present. The texture is nearly silky, yet it retains the warmth of brandy. I would suggest serving it over ice.

This is truly exceptional. Seek it out and purchase it. You will not be disappointed. Cannot be bought in Ontario.
