Marie Duffau Hors d'Âge Armagnac

This was one of my initial Armagnac purchases. It's a well-liked selection, especially where choices are limited, yet I still find it to be a very dependable option, and it performs excellently in cocktails. On the aroma, I detect oak, marzipan, and raisins. The taste leans slightly toward the sweeter end with vanilla, figs, and a hint of tobacco. The conclusion has a mild warmth, not excessive, with some peppery notes. I don't expect this to astound you, but it's a very reliable Armagnac, particularly for the cost, and marginally superior to the Marie Duffau Napoleon in my view. Generally, I believe Armagnac offers better value and is more intriguing than cognac, and this bottle serves as a good starting point for newcomers to the spirit.

Coming from a whiskey background, please excuse me if I do this poorly. Nose: Faintly floral, with a very prominent, dense grape aroma. Fresh tobacco, light caramel, subtle oak, and vanilla. Taste: Very potent. Tobacco, chocolate, and a strong oak finish. The initial taste is very sweet with light vanilla notes. The primary issue is that it's too harsh straight from the still. It comes across as very alcohol-forward in both smell and taste until you add a few drops of water to mellow it and reveal its flavors.

Perfectly acceptable, somewhat jam-like, but not completely to my preference.

Extremely smooth with a prolonged finish. An ideal after-dinner drink.
