Lexington Bourbon

Aroma - Young corn and grain, mellow cherry, marzipan, and vanilla. A subtle cola scent emerges over time. Taste - Starting neat - Very mild, perhaps even one-dimensional. There's a slight alcohol bite in the flavor, making it difficult to discern individual notes. Adding a teaspoon of water..... Adding water has really opened up and enhanced the nose. The vanilla has transformed into vanilla bean pod. Toasted sugar notes, like on crème brûlée, sugar cookies, icing, and a very faint oak and green apple that blend together. The taste with water added - It's a bit flat here. The mouthfeel is quite thin without much body. It's very challenging for me to identify any single flavor here; everything is quite subtle. Slightly sweet, slightly woody, slightly vanilla. Regrettably, the surprisingly delightful aroma doesn't carry over into the flavor. That being said, I'm reasonably content with Lexington for its intended purpose. It's an easy, smooth sipping whiskey that isn't demanding but doesn't taste cheap or artificial. A bottle you can reach for after enjoying a dram or three of your top-shelf selections when you've lost some appreciation for subtle details.

Ok so I've been wanting to try this for quite a while. I read somewhere it has a high barley % in the mashbill and as a scotch lover thought this might be interesting. Came across an opened bottle from a coworker clearing out some shelf space. I always figured it would be subpar but what the hell free whiskey always tastes better. Poured neat the nose is dusty old books, light caramel and wispy smoke. Palate has watery sweetness and gentle smoke along with young wood. Like a year or two in barrel with thin weak flavor transitioning to a slightly sour oak finish with trailing grainy notes. It is not good bourbon however I don't completely hate it. I think the barley and young oak unite to make a different profile I can appreciate...a bit. Certainly not a recommended bourbon but if someone is offering a sample why not....64/100...barely acceptable. Don't buy it but drink it if offered still crushes putrid Canadian whisky.

Aroma: Difficult to discern, faint wood, trace amounts of cherry, some alcohol. Neat: A respectable spicy warmth, quite sweet, caramel on the finish, hints of wood, some fruity notes (perhaps cherry? Unsure at the moment), a very pleasant caramel flavor, a bit of cinnamon, and some nuttiness after rehydrating. On ice: Caramel becomes more prominent, still some spice, actual black pepper notes appear, fruitiness recedes, woody character is slightly diminished, still some cinnamon. Serving Suggestion: Old Fashioned Conclusion: Worth purchasing; this is a more affordable whiskey (around $27) that is highly enjoyable. It's a fairly standard bourbon, but the sweeter, caramel aspects are truly delightful. Eager to experiment with it in other mixed drinks and look forward to future tastings.

I picked up this bottle because of the price, $24.99 and the 95 point rating it received. Once I got home I was disappointed to see the negative reviews it received, thinking that I wasted $25. I think it's okay...I've certainly had better but by no means is it terrible. It lacks serious flavor and a meaningful after taste. Immediately I made the association that this belongs to the B-team of bourbons. Certainly not a top performer but does an okay job. That said, I'm glad I gave it a try but would not buy it again

There isn't much to this one. I confess I picked up this beauty solely because of its label...what a label it is. The initial taste showed promise. Vanilla. Perhaps a hint of oak? Then... zilch. No decline. No lingering taste. Maybe I'm being overly critical. The label states this bourbon received a 96 score from a tasting group. I was not part of that group.

I'm sampling value bourbons from a list. This bourbon was reasonably priced and looked appealing in its bottle. The flavor lacked distinction. It was not unpleasant, but it was neither robust nor memorable. I question if the cost justifies the purchase over bourbons that are slightly more expensive.
