Koval Single Barrel Oat

I might be prejudiced since it's from my area, but I truly admire Koval's commitment to trying new things. This is a genuinely distinctive whiskey due to the 100% oat mash bill. The oat character is apparent on both the nose and palate, offering a creamy and buttery quality. The nose also has plenty of baking spice and tart apple, along with a slight petroleum note. It's young, but still smooth. The palate begins with the petroleum, but swiftly transitions to vanilla cream, cinnamon, and some fruitiness as the sweetness builds towards the end...much like a good bowl of oatmeal. I rate this 3.5, and it's well-deserved.

Nose: Herbs, mainly thyme and marjoram. Oak char, like brown sugar and toasted marshmallow. A faint hint of black pepper. Caramel. Taste: Baking spices. Potpourri. Creamy and rich, similar to coffee ice cream. A tanniny finish. The aroma of this whiskey is truly exquisite. If my home smelled like this, I'd be in heaven. The taste is good, but doesn't quite match the nose. Nevertheless, this is a product I would likely purchase again. It's odd that my preferred choices from this distillery have been the Oat and Millet whiskey.

The aroma initially presents acetone, followed by dill and a hint of honey. It's a bit thin on the palate. Similar to the smell, but with baking spices. Sweet, but not excessively so. It's essentially one-dimensional. The finish mirrors the initial taste.

This spirit is quite sweet. Lots of cinnamon and clove. It's excellent for the holiday season. I wouldn't consider it an everyday drink because of that, but it's definitely worth trying if you can find it.

Completely one-of-a-kind. I had this at CC Lounge in Toronto before seeing Fleet Foxes, and the entire evening was memorable. It's very gentle yet possesses depth, feeling quite fresh and raw but still balanced. As I mentioned, unique.

Noticeable oat scent, combined with viscous sweetness. Intense caramel notes, exceedingly sweet and decadent. An herbal finish provides an intriguing brightness, balancing the sweetness effectively. However, it ultimately fails to impress me.
