Redemption High Rye Bourbon

A local store pick I found last year, Redemption high rye bourbon, was quite good, leading me to buy this bottle to understand its character. Nose: sugar, apple, tangerine. Honey. Palate: The bottle is incredibly sweet, but it works. You get powdered sugar, tart apple, orange, and maple syrup. A hint of something bitter, possibly cedar, but the sweeter notes prevail for me. Very good. Finish: cinnamon, more sugar, a bit of caramel. Mint. The apple flavor carries through, and I just realized this finish resembles the taste of the Dutch apple pie from Burger King. I mean that as a compliment. I can't emphasize enough how much this bottle surpasses expectations for its price. Phenomenal value, phenomenal flavor. It's earned a permanent spot on my shelf.

Poured from a late-stage bottle, neat, after sitting covered for 15 minutes. Nose: leather and vanilla, typical of bourbons, with baking spices like cloves and nutmeg. Later, I detected slight berry notes. Palate: spicy and sweet, with vanilla, caramel, and I believe I detected mint. Finish: ginger, pepper, cloves. I've never experienced a bourbon with a rye-like pepper finish before; it's excellent. I will say the rye pepper finish mellowed as the bottle aged.

Quite pleasant! The aroma is unremarkable, smelling of butter and caramel. The taste is sweet like bourbon with a sharp rye spice, though not overly intricate. It's a great value, but would benefit from more aging! I purchased it at Belmont Bev on SR23 in Granger. **UPDATE** The cork was problematic; pieces broke off into the whiskey each time the bottle was re-corked, making it unappealing and less enjoyable to drink.

Apples and cream on the nose. Rye and strong spice on the first sip. Great balance of full flavor and lingering finish. Oak and spice with hints of dark chocolate complete the taste. Adding ice enhances the experience by bringing the spice to the nasal passage and drawing out the apple notes. This is definitely a worthy addition to your home collection.
