Kilbrin Irish Whiskey

The whiskey is smooth and it starts off sweet and light with a creamy element and mixed floral and apricot notes. As it moves toward the finish, some more bitter, vegetal notes come out, making for a disappointing end. There isn't much depth here, but the flavor is nice in the beginning. It reminds me of [BRAND NAME REDACTED] with its creamy fruit and floral notes, [BRAND NAME REDACTED] with its odd flavor and smoothness, and [BRAND NAME REDACTED] with its subdued attitude. It could alternatively be described as [BRAND NAME REDACTED] mixed with [BRAND NAME REDACTED]. Overall I'd be prepared to sip this, but I wouldn't love to do so. The difference between this and [BRAND NAME REDACTED] is similar to that between [BRAND NAME REDACTED] and [BRAND NAME REDACTED] (though the gap here is perhaps greater): they are definitely similar drinks, but one is just a lot more satisfying than the other. For its price though, this is not bad stuff.

Nose: Caramel, pear, shortbread, honey, vanilla, cereal grain, floral notes, with a mild to moderate ethanol burn. Taste: Vanilla, caramel, shortbread, cinnamon, bitter floral and herbal notes, apple, lime, almond, cereal grain, with a moderate alcohol bite. The finish is fast and bright with caramel, bitter floral, and malty grain flavors. This drink resembles other young, lower to mid-tier Irish whiskeys like Bushmills and Jameson, though it's not quite as good. It's closer in quality to Tullamore DEW, which I rate lower than the others. Overall, it's acceptable but quite young and very straightforward. It has a few easily identifiable aromas and flavors of an Irish whiskey, but not much beyond that. It would work as an inexpensive mixer, but I suggest spending a bit more for Jameson. There isn't much else to add.

Nose: Sweet fruit and honey, with some grain. Delicate hints of flowers and spices. Palate: Lightly sweet, with honey notes mingling with a malty flavor. Subtle spice notes. Finish: Short but pleasant. The honey makes it nice and smooth. A bit grassy on the way down. Hearty and full. Overall Thoughts: This is a commendable whiskey. I'd consider it a good choice for beginners, though I believe it possesses a charm that anyone could casually appreciate. It has the body characteristic of an Irish whiskey and is very easy to enjoy. While not exceptional, I might purchase a larger bottle to keep for casual sipping during movies. It's an easy-drinking whiskey.

Just another standard, unremarkable Irish whiskey. It’s not offensive, nearly hitting a 3.5-star rating. However, it's not a dram you'll hold dear or recall later. 40% ABV. It has a golden hue. Its aroma is quite grainy, with notes of grain whiskey, vanilla, fondant, and milk chocolate. It's quite boozy, with nutty and malty undertones. The palate is very direct, featuring apple and vanilla. Neither bad nor captivating. The finish tastes young, with oily, sour, and grainy sensations. Ultimately, this is your common, everyday Irish whiskey. Nothing noteworthy to see; proceed onward. Scored 69 out of 100.

From the Tullamore Distillery, this spirit has a flavor profile akin to Tullamore DEW. You'll quickly notice the charred barrel character, followed by mellow honey and vanilla notes that lead into a finish with some tannic bitterness. It's certainly not the finest Irish whiskey I've purchased, but it's an excellent value for under $20. It works well on its own or in mixed drinks (particularly Irish coffee). I find it preferable to other house brands from Total Wine (Malloy & Kavanagh), and also to Kirkland's Jameson imitation.

Aroma: A light to medium overall aroma, featuring honey, shortbread cookie, a hint of fruit, pear, grain, a light floral quality, and subtle creaminess. Flavor: Honey, buttery cookie, almost a fruit jam or marmalade essence, lemon, a hint of vanilla, a hint of cream, some mild barrel spice, barrel char, and the slightest herbal bitterness. Not overly complex. Acceptable for a budget-friendly choice.
