Kern Irish Whiskey

I detected some vanilla and a nice smoky peat note. The finish is better than Jameson's. It's a bit harsh, though; in my opinion, Tully is the best Irish whiskey I've found in the US. However, Kern holds its own well and is reasonably priced ($23 in the NC ABC). I tried it chilled, and it's much smoother without the burn. The Irish characteristics really come through. I usually drink spirits neat, at room temperature. But this one truly improves when chilled.

Extremely mellow and approachable, yet it has a thin character, almost like it's diluted. A subtle nuttiness is present, but beyond that, it's quite forgettable.

Smooth, slightly nutty, and light.

Faint, thin vanilla frosting.

Astonishingly lacking in strength.

Smooth yet substantial.
