I had the privilege of sampling this new release a few months prior to its official introduction to our market. This is a Five Oak Cask Release, which is aged in a blend of three distinct types of virgin oak (Irish, European, and American) and in addition to ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. As you might anticipate, due to the Single Pot Still nature and the virgin oaks, the entire whiskey is dominated by spices. On the nose – wood-driven spices of cinnamon, complemented by salted caramel and vanilla. An earthy, grassy sensation alongside the zest of green fruits could also be detected on the nose. On the palate, you can now perceive more of the bourbon casks and also the sherry – notes of dark chocolate, toffee, and oranges, all enveloped in wood spices during the finish. I've had the pleasure of tasting much superior single pot stills, to be honest, although this is certainly not one of the inferior ones!

Jameson might not be the typical choice for a malt enthusiast, so this single pot still expression was a rather pleasant surprise. On the nose, I detect orchard fruits, lemon zest, and mild spices, alongside cut flowers, pine resin, and rich barley notes. It's very well-rounded and inviting. The palate reveals honey, peppery spices, and a touch of banana, balanced by floral, herbal, and slightly resinous flavors. The mouthfeel is silky. Nose: Milk chocolate, caramel, and wafer biscuits. It evokes Tunnock's wafer caramel. A slight spiciness is present. Palate: Smooth. Chocolate-covered spicy ginger. Finish: The spices intensify, introducing some stewed apple.

The nose presents baking spice, vanilla, and prominent oak. The palate features more vanilla, rich spice, and hints of candied fruit. The finish is extended and spicy, rounded out by additional oak and vanilla.
