Jameson Orange

The aroma has the usual Jameson scents (vanilla, citrus, butter) faintly overwhelmed by a large amount of orange sherbet. At only 30% ABV, I was surprised by the subtle alcohol presence. It's more ester-driven than ethanol-driven, and very faint, but detectable. Palate: The alcohol is undetectable; it drinks significantly smoother than anything I've had neat at this proof. The orange flavor isn't particularly strong, like a stale orange hard candy. Imagine diluting a strong whiskey significantly with water and then adding a tiny bit of Jameson. The orange is very pleasant, which compensates for the lack of intense orange flavor. Mouthfeel: It's incredibly smooth. Truly, remarkably easy to drink. That's about it though. A slight hint of salted grits and marmalade if you finish a large glass or shot neat, but otherwise unnoticeable. Jameson recommends it with quality lemonade, and I can confirm it's much better than this spirit on its own. This receives 2.75/5 as a whiskey; And 4/5 as a liqueur/cocktail ingredient; a powerful burst of alcohol and orange that could easily be hidden in any beverage.

Another tasting from my collection of small bottles. Is it inspired by an Old Fashioned Cocktail? Well, inspiration is flexible and can be shaped in many ways. This particular product also smells like gelatin dessert, with the fragrance extending quite a distance from the glass. However, the taste is different; it's more like a powdered drink mix and vodka. Adding ice and the suggested lemonade will mask the original flavors entirely. Perhaps that's for the best. Let's leave it at that.

Color: Orange or amber. Without ice: The aroma is strongly orange, with a very faint sweet whiskey undertone. The taste hits hard initially then fades into a flavorless liquid. With ice: The aroma is a muted, almost flat orange. The initial orange taste is less intense, but the weak orange flavor persists throughout the sip. This might work well as a mixer with ginger ale.

The aroma is extremely pulpy orange juice, but not the good kind. The generic concentrate variety… mixed with Tang… nope. On another sniff, it’s just Tang. With a faint grain scent in the background. The taste isn't Tang. I'm uncertain if it's even orange. Yes. Yes, it's orange. Like fake orange cough syrup. Hints of cinnamon and menthol. Not helping the situation.

It's very sweet and overwhelms my tired taste buds, but the citrus has an almost 'cheap orange cordial' quality. Almost. It's not terrible, just not something I'd enjoy neat. I can imagine it would be pleasant as a longer drink with lemonade, and I'm also keen to try it warm with some spices during the Christmas season.

It has a sharp bite and tastes like artificial orange attempting to mask low-quality alcohol. It's technically drinkable, but I wouldn't buy or suggest it. There's a reason it's described as 'reminiscent of an old fashioned but drowned in lemonade,' not as a ready-to-drink old fashioned.
