Jack Daniel's Rested Tennessee Rye

Although I intended to postpone my review until I had more spirit knowledge, this particular rye whiskey is so special to me that I felt compelled to share. It's one of the finest drinks I've ever had, though I question its value for the price. I purchased it for its attractive bottle, needing a rye to complete my collection. Seeing it priced at $20, while the standard JD Rye was $25, I took a chance. After tasting it, my companions and I returned to the store and bought all remaining bottles. Describing it is challenging with my current vocabulary, but it's the most exceptional rye I've encountered. Please excuse any imprecise terms I use, as I'm quite new to this. The aroma is wonderful, sweet, and spicy, like a homemade dessert just before serving – think banana pudding with toasted meringue and a sprinkle of spice. Or perhaps grilled pineapple with a dusting of chili powder. The subtle charcoal note is a mere aftertaste, while the mid-palate spice leaves a pleasant, lingering impression, unfolding like flavors during a superb meal. The finish is soft and smooth, with lingering spice and warmth. Now for the drawback: it's overpriced; it's not a $60 bottle. Additionally, if you seek a bold rye, this isn't it. It's subtle and delicate, easily diluted by water or ice. It makes a solid Old Fashioned, but be cautious with the bitters, as they can overpower the flavor. In my opinion, a slightly higher proof, perhaps 90, would be beneficial, but as a sipper, it's outstanding. Despite my high praise, I use a very small glass to make it last. My usual choices for everyday rye are Bulleit Rye or JD Rye, which are higher proof and widely available. However, if I find this on sale, I'll purchase it again. If you see it around $20, give it a try; you'll likely be pleasantly surprised.

No rating since I haven't tasted it, but I find the prices for these bottlings too high. To attract more customers in this segment, they should consider a lower price point. Small producers need that price range ($50ish) to survive, not JD.

Considering this is a very young rye, it's great! I'd say this is an excellent way to understand the aging process that whiskey and bourbon go through! Try it out!

It tastes a bit immature. The unaged spirit flavors haven't softened, and the rye spice lacks depth.
