Husk Coconut

Husk Farm Distillery, October 26th 2024, Rum (Cane Spirit) #1 Nose: Smells of coconut and vanilla with a subtle grassy, buttery undertone and a hint of funky hogo. Palate: Begins very sweet with initial tastes of white sugar and vanilla. Coconut appears soon after, surprisingly subtle, but sugar with a vanilla hint remains the dominant flavor. There's the faintest tingle of white pepper, and the texture is full yet creamy, not oily. Finish: Short. Vanilla fades into white sugar sweetness with a touch of coconut in the aftertaste. I recently toured Husk Farm Distillery with a couple of friends. We were given this as a long drink with ice, soda, and an orange slice at the start of our tour. It was very refreshing after the drive and a fantastic way to begin the experience. This is a solid base spirit for crafting light tiki cocktails and long drinks. The flavors are understated but clear, all originating from fresh components. The distillery infuses the spirit using actual coconut and vanilla pods, not extracts. The aftertaste carries that faint woody note characteristic of fresh coconut. It's somewhat like a piña colada without the fruit juice but offers more versatility. It's delightfully free of heavy flavorings and aromas. I purchased a bottle. “Good”: 83/100 (3.5 stars)
