Husk Bam Bam

Nose: Orange zest, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, brown sugar. Palate: Sweet and slightly hot on the initial taste, with increasing warmth as it develops, but it's not a chili-like heat – more a combination of hot and sweet cinnamon. Orange peel, clove, ginger, vanilla, nutmeg. Abundant mulled-wine spices. Finish: Moderate. The spicy intensity gradually subsides. I'm not a big fan of spiced rum. I don't dislike them, I just don't understand their purpose and rarely purchase one. When I do, it usually sits neglected at the back of the shelf, eventually used in rum and Cokes or for cooking. This was a decent spiced rum, as far as they go, but my assessment is based more on what it isn't rather than what it is. It's not an artificially flavored mass-market product like Sailor Jerry or Captain Morgan, and it's definitely not a weak excuse for a rum like Kraken. It's more comparable to artisan distillery spiced rums I've sampled, such as Dark Matter, Dead Man's Gold, and Rebellion Bay, and that's good company. Oh, and the name? It has no relation to a 60s cartoon character. It originates from Bajan slang and is somewhat untranslatable, but "hell yeah" is a close enough approximation. "Good": 83/100 (3.5 stars)
