Huling Station Straight Wheat Whiskey

Tried by the pool neat with a friend while waiting for crawfish to be finished soaking. On the nose I get sour char, toast, vanilla, wood. On the palate it’s extremely smooth, sour, and sweet with notes of cherries, citrus, sour mash. It’s somewhat thin and interesting. More sips reveal herbal notes and I get wood, mint, white pepper, peppercorns. It’s somewhat complex, I’m here for it.

An unusual but intricate nose with notes of cola, wheat, green herbs, Christmas spices, peach, ethanol, apple cider, menthol, and potpourri; reminiscent of whiskey and amaro. It smells like a Christmas shop. The palate is similar, with potpourri, charred wood, black pepper, barrel spice, and vanilla. It's certainly peculiar, but intriguing. The finish is slightly peppery with hints of sweet corn, cinnamon, and caramel.

I suppose I don't care for wheat... It's very thin, the alcohol is detectable, and the only flavor notes are average to subpar. It's excessively sweet. There's a subtle presence of light oak and vanilla, but the sweetness dominates everything else. The remaining components are weak and muted

My initial review was mistaken. It's very good, with a solid texture and flavor profile.

It was rather warm; it was the single barrel bottling.

Oak and wheat dominate the aroma.
