Hotel Tango Lemoncello

I'd been wanting limoncello for my bar for a while, but when I discovered Hotel Tango had their own version, I felt compelled to support those veterans again. It was unexpectedly difficult to locate, but I'm quite pleased to have it, especially given its higher proof and the promise of tart flavors. As advertised, the aroma is rich with fresh lemon juice and oil, but it's definitely more sour than sweet. This smells like a lemon drop martini before it's been shaken, with the sugar and juice still separate but in the same vessel. The initial taste is slightly acrid, and not very lemony, akin to a cocktail made solely from the pith. I need to approach tasting this differently, as the proof is indeed high enough to influence my initial impressions. Once past that, it's certainly easy to discern that the entire lemon was utilized, as I primarily detect rind and oil, with only a very subtle hint of tartness on the finish. Considering it's been years since I've sampled any proper limoncello, I'd say it meets most expectations for what it should be. As always, I'm happy to back any and all fellow vets. Nose: smells like lemonade and sugar. Taste: not a pure lemon flavor, also includes orange. Adding ice made it sweeter. Overall: absolutely delicious, great mixed or served chilled on its own.
