About this bottle

High West's Barrel Select series features single-barrel releases, each unique due to varied cask finishes like Scotch whisky, pinot noir, or white port, and are exclusively sold at the distillery. Valley Tan refers to a historical whiskey produced by Mormons between approximately 1850 and 1870. High West offers its own version, a blend of oat and wheat distillates aged for 3-6 years, which is produced in-house.

Scarlet Galvan 5.0

Aged 18 months in White Port barrels. 48.6% alcohol by volume. From Barrel #17296, Bottle #4. It's a shame more spirits aren't finished in white port barrels. This is a subtle, light, and delicate spirit. It was finished in barrels that previously held wine of a similar nature. The aroma presents notes of wedding cake, white grape juice, minerals, lemon curd, graham crackers, and caramelized sugar. The taste offers toffee, white Swiss roll, milk chocolate, soft-serve ice cream, and enough savory barrel character to prevent it from being unpleasant.
