About this bottle
The oldest expression in Glenmorangie's "Extra-Matured" collection, The Quarter Century highlights the significant wood management program overseen by Bill Lumsden at the Glenmorangie Distillery. This whisky is a blend of single malts that have matured for twenty-five years in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon barrels from the American Ozarks, ex-red wine casks from Burgundy, France, and ex-Oloroso sherry casks made from Spanish oak.

NOSE
Dried orchard fruits, sultanas, oak, sugar cookies, baking spice, Honey Nut Cheerios, dark honey, and subtle herbal and raisiny notes.
In a peculiar way, it's refreshing. It's light but not weak, fresh yet oaky, and... rather unusual. Good, but unusual.
PALATE
Dried orchard fruits, dark honey, dried dark fruits, raisiny sweetness, roasted nuts, baking spice, pastries, and a slight herbal quality.
The palate seems to mellow compared to the aroma, but it remains good. Delicious, even.
FINISH
Medium-short -> Dried orchard fruits, oak, and baking spice with a light pastry sweetness.

Certainly a quality drink. As others have noted, apple, pear, and honey are the main flavors. It's a rather gentle dram, quite delicate and elegant. The balance is good. It's not a dram that overwhelms you, though; the aftertaste is faint, short, with a slight tongue-tingling bitterness that mellows as you continue drinking. Definitely not worth the price for a bottle, but then again, I often find that to be the case with many very old drams I've tried.

A nice whisky, but I think Glenmorangie is better in its younger expressions. The delicate spirit produced by the distillery's famously tall stills is well complemented by cask influence at 10-14 years. At 25 years, the whisky becomes overwhelmingly oaked. While it's a pleasant oak bomb, I'd rather purchase several bottles of Quinta Ruban or Nectar D'Or than a single bottle of the 25-year-old.

Liquid gold, at least considering the price!
The taste is very pleasant, clearly well-developed and complex.
To my inexperienced palate, it was obviously high quality and very tasty, but I would find it difficult to justify the £1000 price tag.

The aroma features sweet honey and fresh nuts. The taste is of sweet honey, slightly floral, with delicate sweet fruits, all leading to a delightful and subtle medium finish.
