On a recent trip to Scotland, I discovered a rare Glenkinchie 27-year-old Diageo special release in a hidden bar at the Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh. Dubbed "the floral treasure," this whisky has an ABV of 58.3%. The aroma left me with questions: Smoky? Salty? Is this truly a Glenkinchie? There's sulfur, lime, and hand sanitizer. On the palate, it's salty and sulfuric, but also features notes of lime and chocolate. The finish is dominated by sulfuric intensity, with chocolate and salt. It's definitely peaty. Ultimately, this may be the finest Glenkinchie I've ever sampled. I must admit, that wasn't the most challenging feat, as I haven't encountered many exceptional Glenkinchies. My rating for this surprising dram is 91 out of 100.
