Glendalough 7 Year Single Malt

Nose: Earthy notes. Hints of oak and smoke. Undertones of caramel and vanilla. Citrus fruits present. Palate: Vanilla and cinnamon flavors. Slightly fruity, with notes of apples and oranges. Smoky and potent. A subtle peat taste. Finish: Medium duration. The smokiness persists with traces of cinnamon and citrus. Overall Assessment: A very enjoyable single malt. The taste is delightful and not excessively strong or overpowering. For a young whiskey, it is remarkably impressive and I like it. I will savor the bottle and am eager to sample more from this distillery. They had previously impressed me with their other spirit, and this 7 year old will now be a permanent fixture in my collection!

How does one even start to review a whisky that, upon first smelling it, reminds you of old, dusty books? I highly doubt anyone has ever wanted to drink a spirit that evokes the feeling of being stuck in an abandoned library. While I could attempt to describe other aromas, such as peaches and walnuts, ultimately... I detest this. May my mouth be spared.

The aroma is somewhat floral, but otherwise quite dominated by oak. The mouthfeel is warm and substantial. There are subtle hints of apples and honey on the palate until a slight bitterness emerges near the end. The finish is brief, oaky, and somewhat underwhelming.

The nose is great, with a sweet smell and a hint of beer, which I assume comes from the porter barrels. The initial taste is very sweet, giving way to noticeable berries and pear, with just a hint of woody oak at the end. Overall, a great Irish whisky.

Aroma of tropical fruit, dried grass, caramel, and vanilla. The taste is sweet and decadent, mirroring the nose with further complexity. For its age, this dram is quite substantial. A solid daily Irish. Good stuff!

A little rough. The nose smells like apples and shoe polish. On the mouth: Spicy. Sweet - juicy tropical fruit. The finish is heavy on grass and that strange shoe polish taste again...but it grows on you.
