Glencadam The Re-Awakening 13 Year

This was put away in 2000 and brought back out just three years after. It seems clear that the marketers chose to mark Glencadam's major 're-opening' with this bottling. The aroma presents delicate citrus hints, sweetness, and spice, while ginger, fresh bread, and nuts provide an unexpected turn. The initial fruitiness highlights dried apricots, banana, and mild wood spices, leading into flavors that are herbaceous, bright, and a little dry. Mint, pecans, and briny toffee fade in the finish, which is well-proportioned and quite lasting. It has more layers and substance than the 10-year-old expression. I'm having a good time with it! This was a good time. It's a typical highland whisky that has some sea character. Lots of honey comes through, supported by a pleasant woody spice from the 46% alcohol and 13 years it spent aging. It cost me around $70, which is a fair price, but like most highland malts, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. It offers a welcome break from the heavily peated, smoky, and sherry-forward drams that are so common.

Difficult to taste, with people eating nearby. But pleasant notes, very balanced, slightly vanilla, notes of ex-bourbon casks, pear skin, fruity notes, but not overly ripe, like white grapes. On the palate, the alcohol content is not noticeable, very well balanced, slightly sweet and fruity. No harshness or stridency.

Nice light fruity nose, the mid palate has lots of flavor but the finish ends too bitter and harsh for my preference. Also there is a pretty strong astringency to this malt; I'm usually not sensitive to this proof but you can definitely feel it here. Maybe it needs more time in the bottle?

A bold aroma that deceives you into thinking it's a less mature, higher-proof spirit. It presents green and fruity notes, featuring a prominent pear flavor. Spicy, but not excessively. The finish is moderate to long, with a bit too much heat for my preference.

Vanilla and orange liqueur custard aroma. Custard turns to vanilla buttercream. White bread and pears. Soft, mouth coating. Dry, slightly astringent finish.
